Why do I need the Math Symbol worksheets and games?

Are you struggling with Math Maps? What if we haven't learned to read the language of Math yet? I realized for our home that might be why we were struggling so I wanted to help with that. 

How do we learn the language of Math? Just like learning the alphabet, we need to be able to read and understand the math symbols. 

I had to take away my public school way of thinking and think classically. We need to learn the grammar. Being able to name the math symbols and then memorize the definition of that math symbol. Classical Conversations has that with the Notation flashcards but I wanted to take it a step further. Just like we do with new grammar of foundations on community days, what if we had FUN ways to write, trace, repeat, and play. What if we had something for our little ones to do while we do Math Maps as a family? What if they had coloring pages to start recognizing infinity, Ellipsis or Therefore at a young age to help lay the foundation of Math. What if there were games to play with your community to strengthen the language of Math to help with Math Maps? What if your community wanted to have Math Map parties with Math Symbol games? 

That is what has been created through The CC Mama Math Symbol worksheets and games!

So whether you are studying your Math Symbols with your family or as a community, it helps to have a schedule. Thank you to Jenny Williams who created a wonderful schedule for her community. 

All of these worksheets and games will match up with this schedule and are to be used with the Classical Conversation Notation Flashcards. Each product will include the schedule and chart. There are 136 flashcards and it is broken up into 17 weeks learning 8 math symbols per week with a review week after every third week. You can follow this schedule or you can learn 8 symbols over longer amount of time. However it works for your family. 

Each week on the schedule has a color and the worksheets or games will have the matching color to help make organizing easy for you mamas. 

I also have organized it in two age groups/categories: Abecedarian/Apprentice or Journeymen/Masters. 

Abecedarian/Apprentice (Ages 4-7) Working on recognizing the math symbol and learning the name

Journeymen/Masters (Ages 8-11) Recognizing the math symbol & name and learning the definition of the math symbol (Must purchase CC Notation Flashcards. No definitions are provided on the worksheets but I do have ways to incorporate the definitions for the older ones to practice on worksheets and during the games.)

The age is just suggestions- you see what your family needs and I hope this is helpful for your family just like it has been for ours.

Abecedarian/Apprentice- 

* Math packet (66 pages) including:

       - Coloring Page for each symbol with name & symbol

       - Color, Trace, Circle - Just like learning your alphabet this is             a great one for this age group to strengthen their math language

       - Cut & paste Math symbol matching

       - Math Symbol matching

       - Color by Symbol 

With community day for one day, you can color and color, trace, circle 2 symbols each day or spread it out. 

* 3 Game options: 

+ Math Symbol Bingo (15 variations) symbols

+ Math Symbol I have Who has matching symbol to symbol

+ Math Symbol Go Fish  (Abecedarian and Journeymen combined so you just purchase one and can match symbol to symbol or symbol to name whichever your family or community is working on) - if you have younger and older students. Have the older students have to say the definition before being able to get the pair (an extra challenge for your older ones)

Journeymen/Masters-

+ Math packet (66 pages) including:

         - Coloring Page for each symbol with name & symbol (incorporating expressing the definition- using the notation flashcards to write the definition in a creative way on the coloring page including the name and symbol. (See photos in the product listing at my shop.) 

        - Color, Trace, Write -Trace the name and a blank area to copy the definition 

       - Cut & paste Math symbol to name

       - Math Symbol matching symbol to name

       - Color by Symbol 

3 Game options:

+ Math Symbol Bingo (15 variations) symbol name
